GWM Racing Ltd appointed as Race Managers for 2011 Dubai to Muscat Race

The United Arab Emirates Sailing and Rowing Federation (UAE SARF), organisers of the 2011 Dubai to Muscat Race, have appointed GWM Racing Ltd as the race management team for the 2011 Dubai to Muscat race. The 360 mile Dubai to Muscat Race, recognised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club, is now in its 20th year and has established itself as the first classic offshore race in the Middle East.

The race is due to start from Dubai on Monday 21st November with the finish in Marina Bandar Al Rowdha in Muscat and a prize-giving on Friday 25 November. The UAE SARF and the organisers of the subsequent 240 mile Bank of Beirut Chairman’s Cup Muscat to Khasab Race – the Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs, the Oman Ministry of Tourism, and the Marina Bandar Al-Rowdha – have co-ordinated their event calendars so that competitors in the Dubai to Muscat race can take part in the Muscat to Khasab Race starting on Saturday 26th November.

Sheikh Khaled Zayed S Al Nehayan, Chairman of the UAE SARF, welcomed the new    initiative to link the two events – “these are both exciting and challenging races and by co-ordinating the race calendars we are presenting a new challenge to sailors in the region.  We also hope to attract overseas entries to experience the beauty and fun of offshore sailing in these waters”.

Saleem Al Zawawi, Chairman of the Muscat Regatta, said “I look forward to welcoming sailors from Dubai to Muscat and to their participation in the Muscat to Khasab Race.  I am delighted that the Muscat to Khasab Race and the Dubai to Muscat Race are now set for a joint future which will be to the benefit of all regional sailors”.

GWM Racing Ltd have also for the third year running been appointed as the race management team for this year’s Muscat Regatta and Muscat to Khasab Race.  Peter Wykeham-Martin of GWM Racing Ltd commented that he and his business partner, John Grandy, were delighted to be able to participate in the continuing development of racing in the region.  He said “with our experience of running events in Oman and working with previous competitors in the Dubai to Muscat Race, we are delighted to see these two important offshore events and the Muscat Regatta combining to form a new racing opportunity in the regional sailing calendar”.
