The second Regatta Committee meeting for the 2012 Muscat Regatta and Bank of Beirut Chairman’s Cup Muscat to Khasab Race was held at Marina Bandar Al-Rowdha on the 18th of September 2012, chaired by Mohamed Ali, Vice Chairman of Marina Bandar Al Rowdha.
The Vice Chairman welcomed representatives from The Ministry of Sports Affairs, The Royal Navy of Oman, Oman Sail, PDO Sailing Club, Castaways Sailing Club, Muriya Marine Management and individual competitors for the 2012 Regatta. The floor was then handed over to John Grandy of GWM Racing Ltd, the Regatta Managers. GWM Racing Ltd. introduced the plan to track the sailing boats live via an internet stream for the Bank of Beirut Chairman’s Muscat to Khasab Race. With this, spectators will be able to watch the boats race live on their computer screen from around the world. Other benefits of this system include security as the Royal Oman Police Coastguard will be able to keep a watchful eye on those yachts sailing for the Bank of Beirut Chairman’s Cup in the Muscat to Khasab Race.
The meeting focused on the number of boats planning to take part in this year’s Regatta and with representatives there from all the sailing clubs in Oman it was estimated that as many as 140 boats could compete in the two days of round the buoys racing on 22 and 23 November and that there could be 12 IRC entries as well as 3 Rally Class entries for the Bank of Beirut Chairman’s Muscat to Khasab race. With over 140 boats ranging from Hobie 16’s, Lasers, RS Q’Ba’s, Weta Trimaran’s and Optimist’s planned for the 2 days of inshore racing, it will be the biggest Muscat Regatta so far.
The dates for Muscat Regatta this year are from the 22st until the 28th November, these days include 2 days of inshore racing at Marina Bandar Al Rowdha on 22st and 23rd, with prize giving in the evening of the 23rd. The Bank of Beirut Chairman’s cup Race will start on the 24th of November and the final prize giving taking place in Khasab on the 28th November
